I am a GIS Specialist with over 10 years of experience in Environmental Monitoring and Remote Sensing Analysis.
I gained my MSc in Geography at the Lomonosov Moscow State University. My specialization was in Landscape Ecology, I was mapping landscapes and wildfires in the Kerzhenskiy natural Reserve (Nizhegorodskii region, Russia) for my master's thesis.
After graduation, I worked as a Junior Researcher at the Sergeev Institute of Environmental Geosciences (IEG) in Moscow, Russia. I was a part of a research team performing environmental monitoring using Remote Sensing Data, especially on lacustrine thermokarst and mining industry impact issues. For instance, we estimated thermokarst lake dynamics in the Arctic. In this research, I performed Remote Sensing Data Analysis and Geostatistics. Also, I got experience in 3D modeling from UAV imagery, LIDAR, and Ground Penetrating Radar data.
From 2016 to 2018 I was part-time working at the Russian Geographical Society supervising a group of experts within its grant program. There I monitored over 100 projects per year, in different areas of Geography, providing non-stop connections with the researchers and science popularizers supported by the RGS. Also, I was supervising a project team to correct and modernize the Russian school textbooks on Geography, clearing them of outdated data and concepts. By the summer of 2018, over 1.3 million renewed tutorial issues were published. This job has improved my skills of communication with people in science and media, as well as in defending my position in front of the seniors.
After 2018 I retired from the RGS and IEG to improve my English and programming skills to further boost my career. Next year I got a proposition of work from the JSS "TerraTech" which is a commercial subdivision of "Russian Space Systems". My job there included Data Engineering and preparing training sets for neural networks, 3D modeling, etc. In particular, I was making QGIS plugins and scripts on Python to automate data refinery, reprojection, and visualization. The resulting models are being used in construction, natural hazards, mining, agriculture, forestry monitoring, and the presentation of company products. Among the ones I've contributed, I can highlight "DigitalEarth" (deep learning research initiative), "ATLAS VR" (3D Earth digital twins for business and educational issues), and "Pixel AI" (commercial AI platform for remote monitoring, now on beta-testing).
Now I am out of Russia and looking for any opportunities to continue my career in GIS.
