An IRAF (Image Reduction and Analysis Facility) developer works on a suite of software tools primarily used in the reduction and analysis of astronomical data. They develop, maintain and update algorithms and code to process images, spectra, and other scientific data. Their tasks also include troubleshooting issues, enhancing software performance, and integrating new features. They collaborate with astronomers to understand their needs and translate them into technical solutions.
